A successful weight loss fashion show in Spalding attracted more than 100 people to the town centre

Organisers of a fashion show to celebrate weight loss hope the successful event will encourage more people to keep a ‘dead town’ alive.

Helen Webster, of Change Your Weigh with Helen, has been hosting fashion show events for nine years in Spalding, but this year was her biggest one yet.

After spreading her wings and starting her own weight loss business more than a year ago, Helen feels determined to support people in the area with their health, wellbeing and business.

She said: “I organised the event as a means of success for my members and to help our local high street. I have been passionate about keeping our high street alive for years. When you walk through Spalding, it’s dead and I am utterly ashamed of our town and what we have become.

“We’ve got to try and look after what we have left and I want to help people become healthier, and make them feel they are always welcome in the community.”

Helen currently has 251 weight loss members and visits groups in Spalding, Pinchbeck, Market Deeping, Stamford, Peterborough, and Whittlesey – and after working in the industry for 15 years, Helen enjoys sharing her knowledge and tips to inspire others to lose weight.

As part of the fashion show, which was held at St Norbert’s Community Hall in Spalding, 25 models were given a personal shopper experience at Bonmarche.

Helen added: “I encouraged them all to come out of their comfort zone because weight loss can help you see yourself in a new light.

“They all walked down the catwalk to a different song and we had 135 people come to watch – it was an amazing afternoon and everybody shone like the stars they are.

“My business has grown and grown and I am so glad I took the plunge. It was a giant leap and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
