Images show latest work on Spalding Western Relief Road project

The latest set of images released by highways chiefs show the progress being made on the new relief road.

Work has been underway since January 2022 on the construction of the northern section of the new route – the first leg of an eventual bypass of Spalding.

Earlier this year we revealed that this project has been delayed. It had been due to end in a few weeks, but won’t now be complete until next summer.

Funding for the southern section of the road has been ‘reallocated’, with Lincolnshire County Council now saying work on this won’t begin until 2030.

There is not yet a plan in place to fund the middle sections.

The estimated cost for the north section of the relief road is £48.6 million.

It will connect the new roundabout at Spalding Road to the north of the Vernatt’s Drain, with a new bridge over the railway line that is the current focus of the construction work and the subject of photos issued by the county council.
