Spalding Railway Station improvements after police called for the second time in four weeks

Improvements will be made to Spalding Railway Station following police being called to the site for the second incident in four weeks.

British Transport Police and colleagues from Lincolnshire Police were called to the station just before 12.20pm on Saturday after concerns were expressed for a woman's welfare.

Officers had been called to the station on September 15 after reports were made relating to the welfare of a man.

East Midlands Railway, which runs the site, says it is investing in improvements at the site.

A spokesperson said: "We are improving all of our station facilities, including installing CCTV and better lighting to make sure our customers feel safe when travelling with us.

"Our staff receive training from Samaritans to help spot and assist vulnerable people and we also have information on display for both staff and customers as to how they can access help and support if they need it".

Emergency Services were called to the station on Saturday afternoon.

They had resolved the incident on Saturday by 1pm and the woman was taken to a place of safety.

Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones said: “I take protecting the community, particularly its most vulnerable residents, very seriously and I am working very hard with other agencies to ensure we have a joint approach to safeguarding.

“In both these cases I am glad the force was able to step in and prevent tragedy but in many cases these incidents cannot be simply a policing matter. It will take partnership working to make any impact and we will continue to work hard to maintain the progress we are already making.”
