WaffleOpolis shop in Spalding attracting interest from new retailers
American-style dessert shop WaffleOpolis may have ceased trading in Spalding but there is plenty of interest in taking on the site.
The Sheep Market store - which sold a wide selection of waffles, crepes, milkshakes and ice cream - had proven a hit with locals when it first opened.
However, the business ceased trading late last year, citing rising costs.
“It’s with great sadness we’re having to announce the closure of our Spalding store and (we) will not be reopening,” read a statement posted on WaffleOpolis’ Facebook page.
“With the rising costs of electricity and basic goods, we cannot compete and stay open in Spalding.
“This decision was not easily made. Not only because we love the town and customers but because of our amazing team of staff.”
WaffleOpolis continues to run its King’s Lynn store but also closed its Downham Market site in November.
The 606sq ft property is currently up for rent with Longstaff at £792pcm on a minimum three-year lease.
The estate agent comfirmed they have received applications from businesses eager to take over the site.
“There has been quite a lot of interest and we have quite a few applications that have been put forward,” a staff member confirmed.
The brochure describes the vacant property as ‘situated in a good secondary trading location having a corner profile in the Sheep Market leading from Hall Place, Spalding’.
