Pinchbeck physical therapist's back problem led to business
Getting treatment for a back injury opened the door to a new career for Harrison Vickers.
Harrison (29) had problems with his back for more than a year before getting treatment from John Charleston-Stokes, who became his mentor.
After being made redundant Harrison decided on a career change and took up a training course in Leeds to gain his Level 3 Diploma in sports therapy which allows him to practice as a physical therapist.
Mr Charleston-Stokes offered Harrison the use of a room at his clinic based at The Birches, Unit 3 Apex Court, Pinchbeck, where he received a further two months in-house training.
Harrison explained: “I got into physical therapy and remedial massage, after having back problems
myself.
“I wanted to learn more and put my experiences to use and John suggested I pursued this career after seeing my interest during treatments with him.”
Harrision offers remedial and maintenance therapy to ease muscular pain and help recovery from injury, mainly based on deep tissue massage and muscle energy techniques.
Most clients go to Harrison two or three times in the first month and then attend for maintenance therapy.
A session, which normally lasts around 40 minutes, costs £40. The first session including consultation and treatment can last up to an hour.
If following the consultation Harrison is unable to help, or if he feels the client needs to see a doctor, the session is free.
