Spalding Flower Parade organisers release final line-up for parade predicting it to be the biggest in the event’s history

The organisers of Spalding Flower Parade have released the final running order for the event - which they say promises to be the biggest in its history.

The line-up includes 59 features with floats, decorated trailers, bands and community groups all taking part on May 11. This year it’s a weekend-long celebration - with activities on May 12 too.

Parade organiser Steve Timewell said: “Since the parade started in the 50s, there has never been a parade like it, this is certainly the biggest parade in Spalding’s history.”

“There are over 500 people in the parade, all in costumes based on this year’s theme of movie titles.

“I genuinely want to keep Spalding on the map and these community events are vital to the economy in the town and of course, preserving the heritage that we were once so proud of.”

Mr Timewell brought back the parade last year after a ten year absence and the event in 2023 drew crowds to the town in excess of 200,000 for the day.

A recent fundraiser saw the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car attract photographs and Mr Timewell has even made a TARDIS like the one from Doctor Who.

This year’s parade will feature a night time illuminated display at the Castle Sports ground and the floats will be on display on Sunday too.

The sports ground will be packed with more than 60 craft and charity stalls as well as a host of family activities and entertainment.

New Flower Queen Rebecca Roberts and her deputy Demi Fontaine Gilchrist will take over the reins from Holly Kendrick and Star Perry who have acted as ambassadors in the town for the last year.

Mr Timewell said: “The only thing I can’t guarantee is the weather, however I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

“Regardless of the weather it will be an amazing day and we already have 59 coaches booked in from as far away as Devon, Cornwall and Newcastle.

“It’s time to show what Spalding can do.”

The parade will be covered by live TV broadcasts on the BBC as well as most local radio stations.
