Portuguese restaurant and grill A Poncha to open in Spalding
A sizzling new restaurant and grill - named after an exotic drink - is promising a ‘holiday experience in England’ for diners.
Roger Alves has transformed a former coffee shop into a Portuguese restaurant and is looking forward to opening A Poncha, in Westlode Street, Spalding, tomorrow (Friday).
He has named the restaurant after a traditional alcoholic drink from Madeira, which is made from rum, citrus juice, sugar, and honey.
And the restaurant’s new menu promises meat and fish ‘grilled to perfection’.
Mr Alves said: “We have an English and a Portuguese chef so customers will be able to try traditional dishes.
“It will be a good atmosphere - a holiday experience in England.”
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
Mr Alves, who also owns the Brazilian and Portuguese grocery shop European Distribution, will employ two more waiting staff in the restaurant.
He is planning an open day in the next couple of weeks to allow people a chance to find out more.
Mr Alves said: “Everyone is welcome to see and try what we do.
“I am feeling good about it.”
