Hundreds attended the first ever Hot Rock ‘n’ Boogie Weekender at Springfields in Spalding as the clock rolled back to the best of the 1950s.

Among 13 bands on the bill were local outfits including The Hound Dogs, The B-Sides, Relentless and The Tailfins.

Organised by Boston Jive, the event gave people from as young as six to their mid-eighties the chance to show off their best jive moves, line dance or boogie to the bands.

Boston Jive, run by husband and wife team Claire and Neil Seabrook, hold dance classes in the area, including St Mary’s Church Hall at Pinchbeck on Thursdays and Fridays, Coronation Hall at Market Deeping on Tuesdays, and an after-school club at William Stukeley Primary School, Holbeach.

Some pupils from the after-school club were on the dance floor and a couple from Tasmania cut short their visit to Ireland in order to join the dancing.

Around 400 people attending the event on Saturday and another 300 on Sunday.

Claire said: “Everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was our first weekender and we have got the next one booked in already for the May 4 and 5 Bank Holiday weekend 2019.”

As well as music and dancing, there was a chance to have a taste of vintage hair styling, sample a vintage market and buy clothes in 1950s styling, take a look at vintage cars and enjoy fairground rides.

Claire said the vintage clothing captivated people.

“Some of the people who come to our classes, and have never dressed up, were buying it,” she said.

Claire says the jive has never really gone away.

She and Neil started out teaching one class a week, and now they teach five nights a week.

Claire said: “We are very lucky that we have got some amazing people in our classes who are really, really friendly, who are always welcoming of others, and it’s just a growing thing.”

As well as the bands, Claire says the DJs – Mr Big Feet, The Rev Boogie and Miss Aloha – were phenomenal, and excellent technical support made the sound system “awesome”.
