Job losses expected and Butters Shop to close as factory at Low Fulney, near Spalding, prepares to relocate
Job losses are expected as a factory prepares to relocate - which will also mean the closure of a much-loved shop.
Flamingo Flowers, which will be moving its plant packing operation from its site at Low Fulney to Weston this summer, says the cuts are ‘regrettable’.
These changes mean the Butters Shop, also located at the Kellet Gate site, will cease trading at the end of June.
The well-established factory shop specialises in plants, garden furniture and gardening equipment.
“After thoroughly evaluating our current operational footprint, we have decided to relocate our plant packing operation from our current Kellet Gate site to our neighbouring Weston facility,” a statement from Flamingo Flowers said.
“This strategic move will enhance operational efficiency and ensure a more streamlined process for our valued employees and customers.
“While most of our employees will transfer to the new location, we are acutely aware of the impact this may have and are currently finalising these arrangements.
“Regrettably, we propose reducing operational management, administrative, and support roles.
“However, we want to assure you that we have made every effort to avoid compulsory redundancies and will provide full support to all affected employees during this process.
“We are unable to provide further details currently due to the ongoing consultation process.”
Flamingo Flowers confirmed that after the move the site at Kellet Gate will be used mainly for storage and busy production periods.
“Unfortunately, these changes mean we have made the difficult decision to close the Butters Factory Shop effective late June 2024,” the statement added.
“It's important to note that the plants category is one in which we are continuing to grow.
“We are steadfast in our belief that a focused multi-site facility will enable us to further expand in this area, ensuring a bright future for our company and our employees.“
This week staff members confirmed to LincsOnline that the business was shutting down although they had not yet been given an official closing date.
