Jobs could be axed at Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board
Jobs could be cut at a body which is in charge of planning Lincolnshire’s health services due to ‘significantly reduced’ funding.
Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board is waiting to hear what its future role will be after being informed that its management costs are going to be cut by 50% as part of major changes to our health service.
Earlier this year, health secretary Wes Streeting announced that NHS England - the body which manages health services - was being abolished in a bid to cut down down bureaucracy with the loss of 9,000 administrative jobs.
Cutting waiting times and improving the NHS has been a key focus of the Government, which last week promised £29billion funding for the service in the spending review.
Lincolnshire ICB, which employs more than 370 people, was established in July 2022 to plan and deliver the county’s health services including GPs and hospitals. It replaced four clinical commissioning groups which were formed in 2012 following the abolition of primary care trusts.
A spokesman for five East Midlands ICBs, including Lincolnshire, said: "ICBs oversee the planning and delivery of health and care services in a specific area and have a valuable, localised role in ensuring that different parts of the health and care system work together effectively to provide better care for patients.
“NHS England informed us that the management costs of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will be significantly reduced by around 50%. We are waiting for further information on what the responsibilities and priorities for ICBs will be in the future, so that we can understand what changes we need to make and what this will mean for our employees and the organisation, as well as any impact on our patients.
"We are supporting our incredibly hardworking and valuable staff as much as possible during this time of uncertainty, so that they can continue to deliver the high-quality services our local communities expect and deserve."
