Crowland's Snowden Field parkrun reaches milestone 100th event... and you can join in
You can take part in a milestone event at Crowland this weekend - as the Snowden Field parkrun celebrates its 100th instalment.
The weekly free-to-enter 5k run will reach treble figures this Saturday, three years after runners were first under starter’s orders.
And whether you are a runner, jogger, walker or taking the dog out for a brisk stroll you can join in the fun.
“We’re hoping to have over 100 people take part in our 100th parkrun,” said event director Adam Caress.
“It’s something anyone can take part in, whether you’re trying to get a PB (personal best) time or looking to keep healthy.
“It’s a run and not a race. The emphasis is very much on being active and healthy and just finishing the course.
“We have children completing it as well as people in their 70s and 80s. We really have a diverse group of people.”
Saturday’s parkrun gets under way at 9am at Snowden Field, Thorney Road - with a special guest starter.
Local lad George Elliott - a finalist in ITV’s The Voice Kids - will be sending those taking part on their way.
The Snowden Park event was the first parkrun in the district.
“We launched in April 2019,” Mr Caress added.
“But with Covid and lockdowns it’s taken longer than we thought to reach 100 parkruns.
“But we’re looking forward to it.”
As well as those taking part, a hardy bunch of volunteers also play their part on the day to ensure things run smoothly.
“We’re definitely looking for more volunteers,” Mr Caress continued.
“We have our regulars but you’d never say no to extra volunteers.”
Entry is free and open to all.
Anyone wishing to take part is asked to register online - which only has to be done once, no matter how many parkruns you enter - and bring a scannable copy of your allotted barcode to receive a run time.
