Spalding hypnobirthing teacher's quest to bring calm to expectant mothers during crisis

A Spalding woman who has dedicated her time to caring for residents across the area during the lockdown is hoping to continue her work by returning to her day job as a hypnobirthing teacher.

Over the past few weeks, mum of two Kiera Williamson has been helping residents and families in need of essential items and those struggling with loneliness with her Spalding COVID Kindness Team.

However, as the group scales back some of the services on offer Keira is focusing on taking care of expectant mothers who are facing a pregnancy like never before.

Although Keira, who ordinarily holds workshops at The Holistic Hub in Spalding, is unable to physically meet with her clients she has now created digital packs which they can use to continue to have access to their antenatal education throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.

Keira, who runs The Zen Mama Company, said: “I have been holding the workshops for about four years.

“I started training six months after I gave birth to my daughter as I used hypnobirthing myself and I had such a calm and connected experience - I thought that more people should know about it.

“There is such a misconception around hypnobirthing but it’s incredibly science backed and it’s all about learning techniques how to relax the conscious mind.

“We also learn about what a woman’s body does, hormones and how to keep calm and free from fear during childbirth which, at the moment, is really important as women are anxious about the global pandemic as well as giving birth doing so during it - women will always remember giving birth and I’m so sad that a lot of support has been taken away from them.

“Our final pregnant yoga class was held just after it was announced that pregnant women needed to self-isolate and the room was filled with anxiety.

“My heart is with all the women right now who are facing their pregnancies or fourth trimesters in a more isolated community, when the social aspect of motherhood is so important for maternal mental health.

“Hopefully the packs can provide a little virtual hug as they can still access our support and education.

Keira has created two packs made up of four weeks of teaching - one focusing on pregnancy yoga and the other with focuses on mother and baby yoga which include breathing practice, mindfulness practice, yoga flows for mother and for baby and pelvic floor work.
