Spalding Language Club is inviting more learners and volunteers to be part of its twice-monthly classes.

The club meets at St Nicolas Church Hall, in The Vista, on the first and third Thursday of each month, with the next session scheduled for October 3.

Classes start at 7.15pm with coffee, tea and cake, followed by a choice of two groups.

Tutor Martin Whitfield said: "Our learners come from many countries, but some have little or no English, while others can speak the language well and so mainly need help with writing it.

"We also help with learned with filling in forms, but the emphasis is on being a fun group.

"One of our learners is a musician and at a recent session, she played a new composition on her violin called 'Spalding Evening' which was much enjoyed by everyone.

"We also tried out origami paper folding and then, using English sentences, each learner explained how they had made the shapes.

"The group would also be pleased to welcome more volunteers who won't need any experience of teaching English.

"They just need to be supportive and encouraging."
