Spalding vicar calls for a town council and Sutton Bridge man praises Jubilee effort
Here are the latest letters sent to the Lincolnshire Free Press...
Town needs a stronger voice
I want to add a few words of support towards the creation of a town council for Spalding. I appreciate that there may be a small extra cost for Spalding residents but the benefits will come when we are able to have councillors from every community in our town working for us and with us to improve the quality of life, to drive greater prosperity and to increase our pride in Spalding.
It is easy to be cynical and pessimistic. It is too easy to deride those who give their time and energy to serve in local government. Anyone willing to put themselves forward for the town council will need to have a thick skin and not expect to be thanked for their efforts.
However, I know that there are good people, who want the best for Spalding, who with the right sort of encouragement and active support can begin to turn things around for a better environment in the town centre, better transport across the town and more local facilities in new areas as Spalding continues to grow.
A third of the population of South Holland live in Spalding. While Spalding is unparished we will always be in the minority on South Holland District Council.
Spalding needs a stronger voice and a council that puts Spalding front and centre.

Beacon lighting was wonderful
The beacon lighting, bagpipes and fireworks on the Platinum Jubilee Thursday in Sutton Bridge were a happy success attended by hundreds of people.
The misery guts letter from Gena Frogett you published on June7 in no way reflected the reality of a lovely evening.
The beacon was as recommended for such gatherings by the authorities.
The fireworks were great with much more on Saturday. The organisers, all obviously volunteers, were working to a tight budget which had to cover the celebrations on the Saturday as well as Thursday evening.
In turn, Saturday was probably the largest, happiest turnout in Sutton Bridge in living memory.
There was a massive tractor and lorry parade (all local, working vehicles), classic cars , stalls, children’s races, food, drink, general entertainments, singing and dancing all with great good humour.
Frogett got it so wrong- she should be ashamed.
It was a wonderful celebration with good weather to match.
Massive thanks are due to the organisers.
