Clear up dog mess or we will ban them

Dog walkers face a ban from Surfleet’s Glen Park unless they mend their ways.

This is a last ditch bid to remind owners they should keep their pets on a lead, keep them off the grass and clean up their mess.

We (Surfleet Play and Recreation Charity) are displaying posters around the site for a one month period from last weekend.

The messages include descriptions of owners who fail to clear up after their dogs as “dirty, thoughtless, anti-social and a threat to children’s health”.

Owners’ actions will be monitored live by 12 internet-linked CCTV cameras.

Glen Park has welcomed dogs since it opened 15 years ago, and its insistence on good behaviour and cleanliness has helped make the park a magnet for families with young children and clubs catering for people with impairments.

But all this has changed in the past couple of years with many dog walkers ignoring notices around the park and leaving the mess to be cleared up by volunteers.

Enough is enough. It’s filthy and disgusting to see the amount of dog poo left around the park.

If it continues, we will have no choice but to ban dogs to make the park again a safe and pleasant place for people to visit.

What has happened to our town?

What’s happening to the once prosperous, thriving, busy market town of Spalding?

I worked in the town for over 40 years, I loved working there, especially doing my shopping when my working day finished.

Over the years there’s been a lot of changes, some for the good, some not so good. New shops come and go.

There was always a friendly warm atmosphere. Now it feels that doom and gloom is hanging over it.

I was there on Wednesday and saw minimum footfall, I find out Bonmarche is closing, Beales looks like being next, then find out M&S food hall is closing it doors.

I’m gutted, saddened and feel things will only get worse. Car park fees going up, everyone keeps blaming online shopping.

Spalding is slowly becoming a ghost town. I feel sorry for the workers who will be made redundant, the businesses which are left to survive.

Are the local council trying to help or just paying lip service?

A disappointed shopper and former Spalding worker.

Thanks to all who helped our sleigh success

Spalding Lions would like to say a big thank you to everyone and to the residents of the villages that we recently visited with Santa.

We have had one of the most successful years of raising money and it would not be so without your kind donations.

We would also like to say thank you to Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s supermarkets for supporting us.

Thank you to all those businesses that offer support, either helping the sleigh run smoothly or giving produce that we give to our elderly residents.

The money that we raise is to help our community in Spalding and the surrounding areas.

This is the busiest time of the year for Spalding Lions, joining together to bring some festive cheer to the community.

Santa is warmly welcomed by all on his visits, he makes sure that those that wish to speak to him are given the opportunity to let him hear their Christmas wish.

Volunteer helpers join us on this mammoth task, making it possible that a wide area of the district is visited.

All these organisations will receive a donation from Spalding Lions.

When not with the sleigh, Spalding Lions visit some of the elderly residents of Spalding, giving them a musical day/evening with carols and songs from their era. These days/evenings are received with much enthusiasm from the elderly residents.

Once again, a big thank you to all involved with our Christmas activities. We will be doing various fundraising events during 2020 and hope to see you all there.
