Spalding Lions have an eye on helping those in less-privileged countries

Spalding Lions have collected more than 70,000 unwanted and damaged spectacles and hearing aids, which will help people in less-privileged countries.

All donations are examined by a team of Lions and other volunteers in their recycling workshop and then sent for grading and distribution in France, ending up being given out in countries such as Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.

Scrap metal salvaged from the broken and unsuitable spectacles raises funds that support the sorting operation and enable Lions clubs to give financial support to eye-related projects in the UK and overseas.
