LONG SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: New chairman's plans to be 'open and accessible'
The new chairman of Long Sutton Parish Council has set out his aim to make it more "open and accessible" to people.
Coun Richard King took over the role during the annual parish council meeting at Long Sutton Baptist Church last month.
Alongside Coun King, as vice chairman, is Coun Dale Frith who is also involved in work to create a new parish plan for Long Sutton.
Coun King, previously vice chairman alongside ex-chairman Coun Charles Moore, said: "It's an honour to be asked to do it for the next couple of years.
"It's something I'd been thinking about and that I had at the back of my mind because I'd been vice chairman.
"I'd like the parish council to be more open and accessible to people so they can take more of an interest in what we do.
"Another thing I'd love to do is to get the parks opened up more and we've had a couple of things happen there already."
Coun King was referring to a joint project by the parish council, Long Sutton in Bloom and the town's Men's Shed group to put bird and insect boxes in both Cinder Ash and Winfrey Parks.
Speaking to Spalding Today after his retirement, Coun King said: "The BEM was a complete shock and I was absolutely dumbstruck.
"It was mainly for my wife Joanne and taking her to Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Garden Party last year was the best moment of my career.”
