Long Sutton man tells court how he has reduced his £25 a day drug habit to £10 per week

A Long Sutton man has told a court how his drug habit has reduced from £25 per day to £10 per week.

James Michael Cross, of Anfield Road, was explaining to magistrates in King’s Lynn last Thursday as he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis - a class B controlled drug.

The bench heard that the 28-year-old was spotted waiting with a female in Wisbech Road at 4pm on June 13.

Cross was found to have 1.1 gram of cannabis resin on him, worth about £10. Commission of the offence put him in breach – by just two weeks - of a 12-month conditional discharge issued in June 2018 for a similar matter.

Cross, who was unrepresented in court, said he suffered from mental health issues and had previously been on a drug rehabilitation requirement.

“I used to be doing £25 a day – now maybe £10 a week,” he added.

For the drug possession offence he was fined £100 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and for the conditional discharge breach he was fined £20.
