Holbeach rural councillor calls for A17 to be made a dual carriageway or wider to stop the regular crashes
Widening the A17 or an average speed camera might be a way to tackle the high number of crashes which have taken place on the major road.
Coun Peter Coupland suggested improvements for the A17 after this newspaper reported last week that Lincolnshire Road Safety Parntership is looking at a stretch of the road after nine fatalities have happened at that site in the last six years.
Last month a man in his 80s died following a crash at Gedney and a lorry and car were involved in a crash at Holbeach. January began with the road being shut at Algarkirk to allow a crane to rescue an overturned lorry.
Speaking at Holbeach Parish Council last week Coun Coupland higlighted that there are 10 junctions between Holbeach and Gedney along with a number of cafes and a recycling plant.

He said: “If you are driving on that road and you don’t know it, there is quite a lot to compute, I think that is what the cause is.
“It has concerned me for the last three months. We have had a fatal at Gedney. We are going to push to get something underway on that. They want to spend money on widening it or dual carriage way with something like a 50mph and average speed camera.”
Vice-chairman Tim Wiltshire questioned if the problems were down to a lack of investment in our roads and added: “Why are we putting up with crummy roads in this country?”
