Police confirm drowning victim had been swimming
UPDATE: Police have confirmed that the 27-year-old man who drowned in Spalding on Sunday had been swimming.
Inspector Gareth Boxhall said: "At 4.29pm, we received a report of a 27-year-old local man in difficulties in the water whilst swimming.
"We attended with Lincs Fire and Rescue and EMAS, with the assistance of a boat from Fire and Rescue, our own drone and Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance as well.
"Unfortunately, just before 8pm last night (Sunday), our underwater search divers found a body.
"Next of kin have been informed but no name will be released until formal identification has been made.
"However, we are satisfied that there are no suspicious circumstances and we have handed over the matter to South Lincolnshire Coroner's Service.
"It's a very sad tragedy for someone to lose their life in such a way and we have tremendous sympathy for the friends and family left behind.
"But it does underline the dangers of swimming in the river and, even on hot days, the water can be quite cold."
