Man admitted causing death of wife by dangerous driving on A16 at Wyberton
A Bulgarian motorist today (Monday) admitted causing the death of his wife by driving dangerously on the A16 in Lincolnshire.
Asen Kurtev was due to stand trial charged with causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a crash that killed a 39-year-old Sofka Mitkova and left four others injured on the A16 near Wyberton on March 4 last year.
Kurtev, of Carlton Road, Boston, had denied the charges when he appeared in court on February 20.
But the 46-year-old pleaded guilty to all five charges when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court this morning.
The court heard Kurtev admitted driving a Vauxhall Zafira dangerously on the A16 Spalding Road near Wyberton on March 4 2024.
Kurtev, who followed the hearing via a Bulgarian interpreter, was granted bail by Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight and will be sentenced later this week, June 26.
Judge Sjolin Knight told Kurtev: "You have pleaded guilty to five serious offences for which I will sentence you on Thursday.
"I will grant you bail but I have no reason to think this will be anything other than a long custodial sentence."
Kurtev was also made the subject of an interim driving disqualification.
