Spalding man arrested after pedestrian in Kent hit by van on footpath and killed




A man from Spalding has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was killed in Kent during the early hours of Saturday.

At 12.42am, police were called to a collision between a Ford Transit van and a man in his forties in Luton Road, Chatham.

The man, who was on the footpath, was declared at the scene.

Following the collision, the van came to a stop against two properties and an unknown number of occupants fled on foot. But a 45-year-old Spalding man was arrested at the scene, detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody.

Two other men, aged 25 and 35 and from Chatham, were later also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All three remain in custody, as enquiries continue.

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and would like to hear from anyone who has information and is yet to speak with an officer.

Investigators are particularly keen to obtain privately-held CCTV and dash cam footage which captures any of the parties involved.
