Officers were quickly deployed with firearms, they located the 39-year-old local man on Hall Place and arrested him on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

He remains in custody.

Inspector Gareth Whitelock, the Force Control Room Inspector, said: "I can imagine this was a worrying sight to see and I'm glad we were able to resolve the incident quickly.

"I can confirm the weapon has now been checked and is in fact an air rifle.

"I'm grateful for the calls we received, each one helps build a picture and provides updated information; thank you to those who called in."
