Spalding man barred from Wetherspoons pub The Ivy Wall in New Road after making complaint but denies being rude to staff
The son of a former publican has been barred from a town’s pub after making a complaint – but denies that he was rude to bar staff.
David Whyte had gone for a couple of drinks with a friend to The Ivy Wall in Spalding last Thursday.
After the first round of two drinks, he ordered another using the app - but after a delay of some 20 minutes Mr Whyte spoke to the manager.
He said: “Myself and a friend met up – there were no staff and we waited about five to ten minutes before we got served.
“All the tables were filled up with glasses and bottles – it was a bit of a mess.
“I ordered drinks using the Wetherspoons app – we were only having two drinks – and after a 20 minute wait I popped to the bar and asked ‘are our drinks coming out to us?’
“The drinks had been brought to the wrong table and I said to the manager – ‘an apology might be nice’.
“He said he didn’t like my attitude – so I asked ‘do you take pride in your work?’
“As an ex-publican’s son I could run this place standing on my head – all the mess.
“This pub has dramatically gone downhill in the last couple of months.”
“At no point was I aggressive – the area manager said they would look into it and that I would get a phone call.
“I have had no phone call and there is no telephone for customer services.
“I got an email saying I was no longer allowed back into the pub.”
The email stated that they did not wish Mr Whyte to return due to his abusive behaviour.”
A Wetherspoons spokesman said: “The gentleman was barred by head office.
“He was very rude to numerous staff members and then was rude and aggressive to the duty manager on shift.”
Mr Whyte added: “ I will honour their barring – but there is a whole generation of woke people who can’t handle it when you say something in public that they don’t like.
“You have to clean the tables yourself – excuse me – can you actually do the job you’re being paid to do?”
