Man (76) dies after accident on A16 Surfleet roundabout




UPDATE: Police have just confirmed that a 76-year-old man from the Spalding area who was involved in this collision has died.

He was the driver of a white Vaxuhall Astra car. A white Scania HGV was also involved in the collision.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision but did not stop at the scene, or anyone who has dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting Incident 171 of November 11.

PREVIOUSLY: Police are now saying the stretch of road between the A17 (Sutterton roundabout) and the A16/A152 Spalding Farm shop will be closed both ways throughout the night and into the early hours of the morning, following a serious collision this afternoon (Sunday).

PREVIOUSLY: A car and a lorry were involved in an accident on the A16 Surfleet roundabout at Algakirk this afternoon (Sunday).

The collision between the HGV and the Vauxhall Astra car was reported at 12.23pm and one person was seriously injured.

Firefighters from Spalding, Kirton and Grantham used hydraulic cutting gear and made both vehicles safe.

Police say to avoid the area if possible as there is likely to be disruption for some time.

The road is closed both ways from A17 (Sutterton roundabout) to A16/A152 Spalding Farm shop.

Local detour routes are in place and traffic is coping well.

The road is expected to be closed late into the afternoon.
