Holbeach man fined £1,500 after assaulting three police officers on night out in Spalding ‘doesn’t know why he got involved’
A man who assaulted three police officers on a night out has been ordered to cough up more than £1,500.
Holbeach resident Stephen Peet ‘ doesn’t know why he got involved’ with officers during a night out in Spalding.
The incident took place at around 11.30pm outside The Punchbowl pub on May 9, prosecutor Fiona McClelland told Boston magistrates on Wednesday (June 11).
“Police were in the area regarding a separate matter,” she continued.
“When they arrived there was a hostile crowd and the police tried to diffuse the situation and establish what was going on.”
It was then that Peet approached one officer and kicked him on his right leg, the court was told.
After being confronted by a female police officer, Peet, of Fleet Street, ‘slapped her hands away and pushed her chest’.
While he was being arrested the defendant kicked a third officer.
Miss McClelland explained the altercations were captured on bodyworn cameras, and that all three officers suffered ‘pain but no injury’.
“In interview he (Peet) admitted slapping the hands but questioned whether that was assault,” the prosecution added.
“He said he was in drink at the time of the offence.”
Defending Peet - who has a 2017 conviction for assaulting two police officers and a conviction last year for battery - Michele Cheatle said her client ‘doesn’t know why he got involved’.
“It was nothing to do with him and he regrets getting involved,” she added.
Peet - who pleaded guilty to three charges of assault by beating of an emergency worker - was fined £916 and ordered to pay a £366 victim surcharge and costs of £85.
He must also pay £50 in compensation to each officer.
