Holbeach lorry driver to be sentenced in Lincoln for two deaths after crash on A17 at Swineshead

A 51-year-old Holbeach lorry driver will be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court following a crash which caused the deaths of two women..

Kelvin Mason, of The Brambles, admitted causing the deaths of Joyce Traves and Mary Blades in a traffic collision on the A17 at Swineshead in August last year by driving without due care and attention.

Appearing at Boston Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday), Mason was driving a Mercedes Benz Axar large goods vehicle at 12.15pm on August 29 2018, when he 'slammed' into the back of a Citroen car, being driven by John Traves with his wife Joyce and a friend Mary Blades as passengers, as he slowed to make a right hand turn.

Prosecuting Ali Zaki said Mr Traves was left with a back injury but Mrs Blades and Mrs Traves both died of their injuries. Mrs Blades died on August 30 and Mrs Traves on September 17.

Mr Zaki said that in the view of the crown, the case should go to the crown court for sentence as the starting point was 36 weeks in custody and Tim Pole, representing Mason, said he did not oppose this.

Mason was granted unconditional bail until a date for his sentence has been arranged.
