Spalding man Alex Pickwell to run three marathons in six weeks to raise money for town’s Central German Shepherd Rescue who rescued dog Megan

A man is attempting to run three marathons in six weeks to raise money for the dog charity which rescued his German Shepherd.

Alex Pickwell, a 40-year-old from Spalding, wanted to set himself a challenge to prove that age is just a number and landed on the task of running the Boston UK marathon on April 28, Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on May 12 and the Cork City Marathon on June 2.

He hopes to raise £1,000 for Central German Shepherd Rescue, the Spalding-based charity where he got his now nine-year-old dog Megan five years ago.

So far, Alex’s GoFundMe page has drummed up more than £600 for the cause, which will go towards making sure the charity can continue its services and support.

“It would be fabulous to give back to the rescue,” he said.

“Since we got Megan, my partner has helped out with the charity by doing home checks for potential fosters.

“The support they have given us has been absolutely amazing.”

Despite the recent weather, Alex has been out training hard for each of the 26.2-mile tasks ahead and hopes that he will contribute to the rescue’s vital work.
