MP Sir John Hayes speaks at meeting to discuss Brexit concerns

MP Sir John Hayes was a speaker at a public meeting to discuss Brexit concerns and the future of south Lincolnshire at a meeting in Long Sutton.

The group Social Issues in South Lincolnshire organised the talk at Long Sutton church hall, which was also attended by council representatives, local business leaders, Lincs' Deputy Chief Constable Craig Naylor, plus a senior solicitor, migrancy partnership director, planner and academics.

While speakers outlined a number of current concerns, it was agreed that now is a good time to consider how community business and agencies can look afresh at working together for best outcomes.

Particular worries identified in South Lincolnshire included: high rents, strains on infrastructure and maintaining respect for all, along with concerns about flooding and rising sea levels, while ‘threats’ perceived through the talks given were loss of certainty and potential loss of income.

"It was a very positive meeting, " said Father Jonathan. "One of the speaker was Geoff Dodson, who is a business consultant and economist in East Anglia and part of a working part on rural issues.

"Mr Hayes was quite positive about the changes and how our county is preparing for them."

The next meeting of Social Issue in South Lincolnshire is on Thursday, May 23, when the main topic will be social care and wellbeing. The meeting is again being held at Long Sutton church hall.
