Memorial charity shoot for Weston farm manager Peter
A third charity clay pigeon shoot is being held in Sutton Bridge is a memorial to a popular farm manager from Weston.
The Peter Barney Memorial Shoot, at The Priory Clay Target Centre, in Chalk Lane, is named after Mr Barney (58) who tragically died following an accident at his workplace in October 2010.
Mr Barney was a keen shooter himself, having enjoyed both game and clay shooting in his spare time.
As well as providing a fitting way to remember his life, family and friends of Mr Barney also hole the charity shoot will prove a great way to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, as it has for other charities since it was first held in 2014.
A year later, the memorial shoot was held at the Grimsthorpe Estate Shooting Ground, near Bourne, where more than £800 was raised for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance (read more here).
Shortly after the event, in October 2015, Mr Barney's wife Maureen and his daughter Kate Chapman said: "It was a great day and we were completely overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. "We would like to say a big thank you to all those who supported us and made a donation to this very worthy cause"
Maureen and Kate said this year's shoot was supporting the Spalding and Holbeach branch of Macmillan Cancer Support because other family members have been treated for cancer and so they wanted to give something back to the charity.
The pair said: "This is our third charity event and we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by everyone’s support and generosity so far.
“We would like to thank everyone who has turned out to shoot in the past and hope as many people as possible can join us for a great day on September 2, so we can raise as lots of money for
Macmillan.”
The Priory Clay Target Centre, run by Long Sutton Commonwealth and Olympic Games trap medallist Aaron Heading and his wife Natasha, is a new venue for the annual shoot which takes place on Sunday, September 2, from 9am until 2pm.
