Drivers in Holbeach face months of roadworks while Cadent replace gas pipes

Months of roadworks are ahead for motorists who are trying to negotiate their way around a town.

Temporary traffic lights are in place on two busy roads in Holbeach - Spalding Road and Fleet Road - while Cadent replace gas pipes in the area.

Roadworks have been taking place on and off around the Foxes Lowe Road and Fleet Road junction for some time – but traffic lights are likely to be in place around this area until July.

Concerns were raised earlier this week about Boston Road South sinking once more but the dip is being monitored by Lincolnshire County Council and Anglian Water.

A spokesperson for the gas network said: “Cadent is currently carrying out a number of projects in Holbeach and surrounding areas. These are essential works that are part of our investment in the area.

“We are currently replacing pipes in the area that are decades old and will eventually be no longer fit for purpose, therefore, these works are absolutely necessary so that we can keep the gas flowing throughout Lincolnshire and beyond, and maintain the supply of gas to our customers for generations to come.

“We have teams working across several sites to carry out these works, unfortunately, we had to temporarily pause work on Foxes Low Road junction with Fleet Road owing to a clash of works, we will be returning to complete the work and we are aiming for completion by March 31.

“However, we will be starting a second project on the same street between 74 to the junction of Winslow Gate which will be run under two and three way signals. This work will be ongoing until around July 22.

“In Spalding Road, we are carrying out similar works which will be running until around May 22, although other works in the area will still be ongoing after this on Northons Lane, Hall Gate and Wignals Gate until early June.

“As is the case with all of our planned works, we work with local authorities and the Highways Agency to ensure that we manage any disruption as effectively as possible. Because of the investment that we are making in our gas network in the area, we will have a large workload until March 2025 locally.

“Naturally, we fully understand the frustrations of road users and residents, and we know that the works are causing disruption, but we thank everybody for their patience as we carry out these essential works as safely, and as quickly as possible.”
