Spalding hosts international cat show

Spalding’s first international cat show proved to be the ‘purr-fect’ draw, with 700 people attending over the weekend.

Owners from as far a field as France and Somerset travelled up to Spalding Grammar School over Saturday and Sunday to bring their beloved pets.

Visitors over the two days were able to admire 130 cats, which included some rare breeds such as a Toyger.

Show organiser Claire Winman was delighted with the response to the show.

She said: “The show was brilliant. I was really pleased how popular it was as there has never been anything like this in Spalding.

“I am really proud of how Spalding reacted. We had local businesses supporting us and people coming in were really enthusiastic.

“The exhibitors loved it and we got brilliant feedback.”

A number of rare breeds took part in the show including American Curls and there was also a Lyoki kitten, which are known as the werewolf cat. There was also a Toyger, which is a breed that resembles a miniature tiger.

Visitors were in some cases able to have a cuddle with some of the cats, which were also judged.

Mrs Winman said one of the highlights of the show was a little girl’s delight at the judging of her cat toy.

She said: “It was really heart-warming. We are definitely going to do it again next year on November 14 and 15.”
