Moulton inventor sees his board game creation hit high street shelves
Board game creator James Smith saw his hard work pay off this summer when he won a publishing deal for his invention ‘Reveal’.
And the game is now available on the shelves of one of the UK’s biggest toy retailers Smyths Toys, and online via Amazon - just in time for Christmas.
James (47), from Moulton, said: “I was a bit gobsmacked that Smyths Toys took it because to see it on the shelf of a high street retailer is a dream come true.
“It has been a bit of a journey and a ride.”
We first reported on James’ invention last year after he launched a prototype and a ‘play test’ at Bookmark in Spalding.
The game was then called ‘Revealations.’
But after signing a publishing deal with Paul Lamond Games Ltd, it was renamed ‘Reveal’ as it sounded ‘snappier.’
The game has simple rules with the catchphrase ‘no questions, just answers’ and is for two to four players of age eight and above.
Players have to guess hidden movie, TV show or song titles by just seeing the first letter of each word.
An incorrect guess will result in the second letter of each of the title words being revealed - and the quicker the title is guessed the more medals are won.
By winning medals, players can make their way around the board and up the ‘red carpet’ in the centre to become the game’s champion.
I found the game simple to understand but getting the answers does require a bit of thinking!
James said: “The idea is you can set the game up in five minutes and don’t have to try to remember all the rules like in Cluedo or Monopoly.”
James is giving away a signed copy of the game, worth £24.99, to a lucky reader. All you need to do is pick up a copy of this week's Spalding Guardian (out October 4) to be in with a chance and guess the mystery song title.
