Long Sutton mum has pledged to run 100km to raise money for the town school

A Long Sutton mum has set herself a month-long running challenge to help raise money for her children’s primary school.

Kate Chapman (41) has pledged to run 100Km during November and will donate the money she raises to Long Sutton Primary School.

The school is currently unable to hold its usual fundraising events due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions.

“I started running a few years ago and did quite a bit through lockdown and the summer, I saw someone else take on the ‘run 100Km in month’ challenge in October in aid of a sports club, so I thought I’d give it a go in November and use the opportunity to raise some money for a local cause,” said mum of two Kate.

“Long Sutton Primary School has a fantastic Friends group, which raises several thousand pounds each year through its summer and Christmas fairs and other fundraisers, but none of these have been able to go ahead in 2020.

“The Friends fund extra treats, resources and experiences for the children like visits to the pantomime and items such as books and outdoor play equipment and help fund other school projects.

“Our children have missed out on so much this year already, so I thought it would be nice to try and raise some funds for school.”

Journalist Kate is making good progress since embarking on this challenge – she’s taken advantage of the good weather and has already run 52Km and raised £125 by day 10.

“It’s probably not the best time to launch a fundraiser. I appreciate times are very tough for many families at the moment,” she added.

“ People are losing their jobs due to the pandemic; it will soon be Christmas and so many other causes are seeking donations and support which they all desperately need.

“I was hoping people just donate a pound or two – what they would have spent on the tombola stall or on raffle tickets at the Christmas fair - it all adds up and will be greatly appreciated.”
