‘My solution to the Spalding tip issues’

Traffic queues, potholes and the future of an RAF base are among the issues in this week’s letters page.

My solution to the town’s tip issues

Yet again a warning of long queues on West Marsh Road for entry to the Recycling Centre (RC)! Go to Bourne, it's open all week, with adequate queuing space.

The queue at Spalding amounts to some 50 vehicles cluttering up the main access road to the transport businesses. Has the council never heard of a time and motion study? What's the big problem? Traffic flow around the site! There is NO FLOW! All the general and garden compactors are at the end of the site, and are most used and take longest for unloading. Metal, electrical and other skips cannot be accessed due to the tailbacks.

Three possible solutions come to mind.

1).Twelve compactors are for general and garden waste. Reverse the traffic flow around the site so general waste is first, then garden waste; anything else can bypass to the skips further round, offload and exit without delay. Won't eliminate the road being blocked, but could speed things up.

2). No waiting from Greencell roundabout to the RC. There's a three lane section of road, unused, opposite the RC with space to turn around and queue without obstructing through traffic. A couple of tins of yellow no waiting paint and few strategic signs?

3). Or another option, there is about 1acre of grass field between the RC and SHDC Refuse vehicle depot. Put down metal grids (as used on building sites), round up some of the abandoned road cones, put two gates into the RC. At busy times, use the field for Operation Stack. A bypass lane for the skips and queuing area for compactors. Access to compactors clockwise and exit, access to skips anticlockwise and exit. Everyone happy

RAF Scampton

We should all care about this issue

The Home Office are endeavouring to force 2,000 peoople into the village of Scampton as they transform the former RAF station into a camp for asylum seekers.

People tell me this is not in our area but I think this is a national issue.

My uncle was a gunner in a Wellington Bomber, which I am very proud of. He was fortunate to survive the war but many didn’t.

We lost 55 men in the course of the Dambuster raids, which flew from Scampton?

Of the 19 Lancaster Bombers that left for the mission, 11 returned.

Our country wouldn’t be what it is if it wasn’t for these brave people.

I have written a letter to our MP, Sir John Hayes – who says negotiations are still ongoing with the Government.

The Government is totally wrong and this is disrespectful to the men who gave their lives for their country to do this at Scampton.

I would encourage everyone to sign a petition against this happening.

Why are our roads in such a bad state?

If as the councillor says all this money and pothole repairs have been done why are Lincolnshire roads especially in Sleaford and Grantham are still as bad?

On more than one occasion in the past I reported potholes to Fix my Street and got replies saying that they had been repaired. On traveling those roads afterwards it was very noticeable they hadn't.

Our Highways Department is wasting our money and time, a number of those potholes claimed to be repaired are duplicated a few months later or not at all.
