New Bake Off winner crowned as Spalding springs into action with fun day

Morris dancers, a roaming dinosaur and a new Bake Off champ were among the attractions as this year’s popular Spring into Spalding event.

Revellers flocked to the town centre on Saturday to celebrate the start of the season.

With live music creating a party atmosphere, young and old made the most of the good weather.

Pete the Dinosaur nuzzled up to youngsters while a may pole, face painting, balloon art, the Bourne Borderers Morrris Dancers and many stalls added a lively atmosphere to the town.

A giant bee and its keeper created a buzz while the popular Bake Off event returned with locals submitting their creative cakes in a bid to catch the eye of judges Matty Edgell - the 2023 Great British Bake Off winner - and Sarah Halgarth of Bookmark.

This year’s winner was Holly Nag, whose stunning wildlife entry was to the judges’ taste.

Kieran Worth and Noah Ford also proved their culinary class as they claimed the runners-up spots.

Offering a real springtime feel, youngsters had the chance to leave with some blooming marvellous daffodils - both the natural and balloon varieties - as well as show off their hare-raising bonnets.

The action continued at the Broad Street Methodist Church where crafty locals had the opportunity to make wreaths and other designs, including egg baskets.
