Holbeach shop is given new lease of life by traditional barber
A barber who is combining his traditional training with a modern twist has opened a new shop in Holbeach.
Cameron Mckenzie, opened the doors to his new barber shop, Mckenzies Traditional Barbers, on Boston Road South, earlier this month - and it’s already proving popular.
Cameron, who has been in the business for 30 years, says that clients are travelling far and wide for one of his cuts.
“This game has been saturated with poor quality barbers and I think the way you stay at the top is by providing good service and professional cuts, but it’s also about the environment you create for people within the shop,” he said.
“I trained at an old fashioned Italian barbers in Croydon and went on to work there for three years.
“What I do is not just a ten minute job, it might take a bit longer but the standard is high and I want to be happy with the cuts I give people.
“Customers are travelling to me from out of the area because they wanted to follow me as they are happy with my work.
“I always take pride in my work. I’ve been cutting hair since I left school, originally working in a hairdressers then retraining at 19 as a barber.
“It’s the best job in the world and I really love doing it.”
Cameron worked on completely redesigning and refitting the premises, with the help of his wife, Michelle, who has a degree in interior design and his daughter, Keira (18), has joined the shop while she waits to move to Brighton to study for a degree in media make up.
Cameron, who has lived in Holbeach for nine years and has previously worked at barbers in Croyden, Tonbridge and King’s Lynn, decided to move to the premises in Holbeach as he wanted to join in with the community.
He said: “We opened up in King’s Lynn in 2012 and were there until last year, but we decided to move closer to home in Holbeach because I didn’t want to miss out on being part of the community in the town.
“When you walk into the shop it’s like being in a bar - everyone gets chatting together which is great.
“We’ve got iPads in for the kids so they can watch something - usually Fortnite videos - while we’re cutting their hair and we are also an autism friendly barbers which really is so important.
Services on offer at the Cameron’s new shop include hair cuts, beard trimming, brow and nasal waxing and hot towel shaves. COVID-19 safety measures are in place.
Mckenzies Traditional Barbers is open from 8.30am to 6pm every Monday to Friday and from 8:30am to 4pm on Saturdays.
