Crowland over 18s invited to Dungeons & Dragons club by Tyler Bilsland
The founder of a new town game club hopes it can offer members the same safe space it does for him.
Tyler Bilsland (28), who has lived in Crowland for just over a year, is in the process of organising a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults in the town.
A new group has also been set up for children and young adults, and Tyler noticed a number of older residents voicing interest in the game on social media.
He has engaged with a number of them on Facebook, and hopes to establish a start-up date in the coming weeks.
The group will be targeted at over 18s, and Tyler says the game can help people to ‘make new friends, learn problem solving and just have a go at a new hobby’.
Dungeons & Dragons, a fantasy tabletop game, has a special place in his heart after it helped him to battle through a difficult time.
Tyler, who works as a practice nurse in Peterborough, said: “I first played D&D as a way of making friends after I was made homeless living in Cardiff.
“I ended up staying in a shared house with a guy who played weekly with his friends and I was invited along.
“It gave me something to look forward to every week and being able to pretend to be someone else for a few hours felt like a huge relief.
“D&D as a hobby can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. I have friends who own every book published whereas I own two dice sets and run everything else from online.
“I am currently involved in a game with my fiancée and one of her friends. which has broadened my own friendship circle.”
He added: “I hope that the club will become something that people can come to weekly or just dip into every now and then.
“I am excited to introduce people to new worlds and to explore who they want to be in these worlds.”
