Holbeach Parish Council has new chairman and vice-chairman
A new chairman has taken over the reins of a parish council.
Sophie Hutchinson was voted in as the new chairman of Holbeach Parish Council with Rick Stevens as her deputy.
An election was held at Monday’s meeting following the resignation from the council of previous chairman Stephen Johnson.
Coun Mark Murfet refused a nomination to stand as chairman.
Coun Hutchinson was voted in with five votes. There were three votes against and one abstention.
Coun Stevens was proposed by Coun Peter Howden. There were six votes in favour, one against and two abstentions.
- The council also welcomed a new member at Monday’s meeting.
Businessman Jamie Moore, of Jamie’s Carpets, was co-opted onto the council.
The council now has six vacancies in Holbeach town ward and one in Holbeach Drove.
- Coun Tim Wiltshire expressed his disappointment at being unable to get items on the agenda.
He said: “We are getting no further forward.”
The chairman asked him to email herself and the clerk with the items to go on the agenda.
- Chairman of the Open Spaces committee, Coun Murfet, reported that the slide in Carter’s Park was being removed.
He also told the meeting that there were vacant allotment plots at Battlesfield Lane site.
- Elections will be held in May and members were told that April 4 is the deadline for nominations.
- The council will be installing a defibrillator in a telephone box in the town’s High Street.
- Coun Isobel Hutchinson reported that the Easter Duck Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 11am to 3pm.
The council will be holding a family fun day in Carter’s Park on May 7 to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
It is also running the calendar competition again and is appealing for people to send in old photographs which relate to a fond memory.
- The council also agreed to start a four year plan to look at its long-term projects.
