New lease of life for Spalding pub

The former Hole In The Wall pub in Spalding is due to reopen next week with a fresh look and feel.

#PE11 is the new name for the premises and the people behind the project say they want to appeal to the more mature customer, who can expect high quality drinks in a relaxing ambience.

It’s the second Spalding town centre pub to reopen in recent week, following the success of the Lincolnshire Poacher, which has extended its opening hours and is opening its restaurant on Friday, August 2.

Paul Jeynes, who owns the lease on The Ship Albion in Albion Street, is leading the #PE11 project in Hole In The Wall Passage and has a particular pub model in mind. The tagline for the premises is Sup | Graze | Unfurl | Cackle.

“We are going along the lines of The Cosy Club in Stamford - antiquey and a safe, comfortable environment,” said Mr Jeynes. “It will be aimed at the more mature clientele.

“I think it will appeal to couples and people who just want to come in after work and relax - there’ll be no loud music or fruit machines.

“It will be very different to anything currently in Spalding.”

The pub initially aims to open 11am-11pm seven days a week, although it is licensed until 1am.

He added: “We’re not going to have run-of-the-mill lagers and ciders. There’ll be a premium quality lager and a large selection of gins.”

Mr Jeynes said a second pub reopening in the town is good news.

“I’d like to think it’s a turning point and the social side of Spalding will continue to improve,” he added.

South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter welcomed a second historic town centre pub given a new lease of life.

He said: “It’s great to see Spalding landmark pubs coming back into use.

“If the town centre - any town centre - is to survive in the modern world it needs to have a varied retail mix and a very good leisure offer and pubs and restaurants are at the heart of that.”

#PE11 is due to open on Thursday, August 1.

Bar staff, chef and cleaner roles are available.
