New Bourne mayor wants to show what town has to offer

It is third time lucky for a new town mayor.

Bourne Town Councillor Brenda Johnson (Ind) has been given the chains of office once again.

After serving a successful term between 2011 and 2012 her last year as mayor was cut short in 2020 when the country was put into lockdown.

She said: “I know what to expect a lot more now.

“Because of the pandemic, last time I didn’t get the chance to make as much money for charity as I would have liked.”

Coun Johnson, 68, is excited to see the opening of the new Bourne Skatepark, which she has been involved in the planning for since 2011.

Among her goals are ‘making people aware of what Bourne has to offer’, providing more activities for teenagers and creating a St George’s Day parade.

“I’m going to try to visit all the events I can so I can get people’s opinions,” Coun Johnson said.

“I will do my best to help people.”

At events she will be joined by her consort and friend Helen Crawford, who is a Bourne Town and South Kesteven District Councillor.

Coun Johnson worked on South Kesteven District Council for 20 years and more recently has been a scheme manager for Bourne retirement complex’s Meadow Close and Manor Court, where she still hosts bingo nights.

“Thank you to everyone in Bourne for supporting me during the 16 years I have been on the council,” she said.

Coun Johnson asks anyone with ideas she can help with to contact her on 07875308837.
