Photos show latest bridge works for Spalding Western Relief Road

A trio of newly-released photos shows the latest progress on the construction of a bridge over the railway north of Spalding.

The bridge is the major part of the northern section of the ‘Spalding Western Relief Road’ project and will join with the recently built roundabout on Spalding Road, Pinchbeck.

The relief road is a £110 million project — but only this current northern section is funded, leading critics to dub the current stretch as a ‘road to nowhere’ and the ‘biggest cul-de-sac in Europe’ as the route will merely stop at the Vernatt’s Drain for the foreseeable future.

The large bridge has been built to allow for the possibility of electrification of the railway line in the future.

Work on and around the bridge is due to carry on throughout August and September.
