New presidents takes the helm of South Holland Rotary Club
A new president has taken the helm of a community group.
South Holland Rotary Club held a barbecue for outgoing president Susan Baker and welcomed Carole Lewry into the role and David Spenceley as president elect will fill the presidency post next year.
Secretary Ian Smee said: “Carole has not long been with the club and was a special needs school teacher so she has a good deal of empathy.
“David has been a member for a good while and has a wealth of experience.”
Club members meet every first and third Tuesday evening in the month at Woodlands Hotel in Pinchbeck Road, Spalding.
There are currently 21 members who raise funds for the charitable organisation internationally and closer to home.
The annual Christmas sleigh ride raised some £10,000 last year which gets divided into the club’s charitable fund.
Mr Smee said: “We take the sleigh and Santa down to Lidl supermarket on Queen’s Road with collection buckets and it was nice to achieve that amount which was an improvement on the year before which was still affected by covid.
“The club has supported Ukraine in the last 12 months and the international rotary has worked to eradicate polio worldwide.
“The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches what we raise so it needs a lot of credit.
“A lot of thanks go to volunteer groups that help us such as PTAs and other organisations and as a club we contribute financially to those groups.
“It is important to help people who find it difficult to help themselves, we help the right people who need it.”
The club will be hosting a charity golf day at Spalding Golf Club on Thursday, August 17 with a raffle.
