Spalding's 'relief road' still awaiting legal deals after fence goes up around works site
Council bosses are still waiting to get sign off on the legal deals needed to press ahead with the Spalding Western Relief Road.
In recent days a fence has been put up around the development site off Pinchbeck Road - with some tasks being carried out by workmen.
Lincolnshire County Council says this is part of ‘preliminary works’ and not the start of the main project.
That scheme is still awaiting the completion of legal agreements which are yet to be signed with the landowner.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “The team is still working to finalise land agreements for the new
relief road, but we’re making steady progress on this.
“Legal agreements like these have a way of taking longer than expected, but we still expect everything to be signed and sorted in the coming weeks so we can start main construction of the north section this summer.
“In the meantime, Eurovia is carrying out some preliminary works next to the Peterborough to Lincoln rail line under a lease agreement with the landowner to give us a head start on the project.”
The initial work on the new road is due to begin in the summer and run until the autumn - and will prompt the closure of Two Plank Bridge over the Vewrnatt’s Drain for pedestrians.
