Spalding Storage enjoying a positive response since opening

A former town centre eyesore has been transformed into a smart storage business by its new owners.

Karl Eve and son Daniel have launched Spalding Storage, and are enjoying a positive response thanks to the booming property market in the South Holland area.

They purchased the former BT yard, which is off King’s Road, last year and have spent months demolishing the old workshops while tidying the site.

Manager Daniel said: “It has taken a year to get to this level and there was a lot to do.

“The biggest part was the grass area at the back - that was the forest. We have managed to keep the bike racks.

“It is brilliant to see the site as it is now. It looks fantastic.”

There are currently 59 storage containers on the secure site, ranging from 8ft to 40ft, which are available for hire.

Daniel said the 20ft containers are the most popular - particularly with people who are moving home or have sold and are waiting for the right property.

He said: “There is a massive demand for storage at the moment. Everywhere is completely full.

“We have another site in Deeping and we have been full since the middle of last year and we have a waiting list.

“People are trying to move but have no where to store their possessions. Businesses also use the containers.

“Storage is definitely needed as houses are getting smaller.”

The pandemic has also had a knock-on effect with regards to supply of containers but fortunately the firm has not been affected by this.

Daniel said: “China is not making as many containers as they used to and the Government is keeping containers for PPE so there is a real shortage of them.

“We were lucky as we were able to get containers before the big price rise.”

The site has stood empty for some time after BT had moved out a few years ago before Daniel and his father purchased it.

The three bedrom house which stands close to the storage yard was sold at auction earlier this year to a different owner.

It is rumoured that flats will be built on this site.
