Spalding race night raises more than £3,000 for Sue Ryder's Thorpe Hall Hospice

Veteran fundraisers June and Don Wright netted more than £3,000 from their race night for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

June and Don held the event on Saturday night at Spalding Golf Club and welcomed 102 visitors, who dug deep to support the charity.

There were nine races on the card, including the final, which saw winners Trevor Harwood and Michael and Mary Booth put their £111 prize money back into the pot for the hospice.

June and Don have organised a number of events for the hospice over the years, including they believe around 15 race nights.

As before, Don managed to collect £2,000 in sponsorship from his "old farmer friends" and "different people" before the race night itself and that money helped boost the total on the night to £3,187.

The fundraising was inspired by the care given by Thorpe Hall Hospice to June's first husband, David, who sadly passed away in 1996 as well as the support given to June herself at that time.

June said: "I could not have got through it without them."

The couple have thanked everyone who either sponsored the event or supported it by joining them at the races.
