Spalding Nida Express store drops bid for licence to sell alcohol
A town centre store will not be selling alcohol, despite its hopes of securing a licence.
The Nida Express store, situated on Winsover Road, Spalding, was aiming to get the thumbs up from South Holland District Council on Friday.
However, the application was withdrawn and the licensing committee hearing cancelled, the council have confirmed.
Owner Helmat Hilmi made the application to sell alcohol from the premises.
He had previously seen two recent attempts for short-time licences turned down by South Holland District Council.
Lincolnshire Police has previously objected to an alcohol application at the site and a representation regarding this latest request was submitted.
However, it was restricted on official council paperwork.
Before being pulled, the application hoped to sell alcohol from the premises during its opening hours of 6am and midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and 6am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Mr Hilmi describes his store (pictured) as a ‘small European convenience store situated in a parade of shops on a main road, in a mainly commercial area, approximately a quarter-of-a-mile south west of the town centre’.
