Spalding's pigeon problem is only going to get worse
A letter writer has bleak news for those concerned about pigeons in the town.
I write with reference to the massive pigeon problem in Spalding and just about every other community in the country, as featured on the front of your last publication.
The feeding of the pigeons by some well meaning people - whilst aggravating the situation - is not, by any means, the main cause of their proliferation.
I understand that pigeons, thanks to lobbying of people like the TV wildlife pundit Chris Packham, have been removed from the list of so called pests. So open season on them by anyone with an air rifle or farmers with their shotguns is no longer allowed under law.
The visual mess and obvious health issues are there for all to see.
The situation will continue to get infinitely worse as a hen pigeon - once attaining five months of age - is able to mate and is capable of laying two eggs every month as long as food is available to them.
Any of you maths buffs out there who care to run your slide rule over that will very swiftly see the size of the burgeoning problem these flying rats are going to continue to cause to society, given they carry on unchecked.
