Looking back at Holbeach's Demon Headmaster, Spalding's Christmas ball and Quadring chess players




We are once again turning back the clock to 1994 and 2009 to jog your memories.

Back in 1994, Holbeach's George Farmer School pupils were gearing up to perform the Demon Headmaster.

Youngsters had been rehearsing for weeks for the show, which was the highlight of the school term.

The lead roles were taken by Hayley Gilbertson, Stuart Shortland, Adrian Crisp, Robert Hill, Christopher Rayner and Charlotte Rose.

Keen chess players from Quadring Cowley Primary School kept opponents at bay in a 1994 league competition.

In the last match of the Boston area chess league they swept the board in three sections taking home the prizes for first place and runner-up.

Winner of the under 11 mixed category was Christopher Hall and runner-up George Bettles.

They also came out on top of the league in the under 11 girls with Sadie Stainfield in first place with Tanya LeSage as runner-up.

Mitchell LeBaigue was unbeatable in the under nine section with Michael Gromett following closely behind.

While in 2009, a dance school in Spalding was hoping to introduce ballet to a wider audience.

Spalding School of Dance began to offer two new classes aimed at adults and beginners.

Due to the high calibre of dancers and the school's excellent results, it began to introduce Royal Academy of Dance classical ballet associate programme.

Staff and pupils at The Gleed Boys' School were celebrating after the school had been branded "good" by Ofsted inspectors in 2009.

Reporting inspector Ruth McFarlane praised the school's overall effectiveness after she sat in on lessons and held meetings with staff, governors and pupils during the inspection.

Headteacher Geoff Cowley said he was thrilled with the outcome. He said: "The inspection judgements reflect the massive improvements which have taken place at the Gleed Boys' School."

Also in 2009, a glamorous Christmas ball raised £1,000 to help local children.

Around 140 people danced the night way at Spalding's South Holland Centre with several businesses donating services to the cause.

Guests enjoyed a slap-up meal before dancing to live music from Zebra and 12-year-old Megan McPartlin.

Money raised from the event went to Spalding's Co-Op's Santa Suitcase appeal,which gave presents to children in care over Christmas.

Youngsters at Surfleet Seas End Primary School were delighting parents and grandparents with their nativity play in 2009.

Reception children put on a traditional play called Welcome Little Baby, which was enjoyed by the audience.

While older pupils took part in Bethlehem's Buzzing.
