NOSTALGIA: Disco fun in Whaplode Drove and radio tests in Spalding 25 years ago
Support for the first disco made open to all Whaplode Drove children meant it would become a regular event on the village calendar 25 years ago this week.
The disco attracted nearly 50 boys and girls aged under 14 to the church hall after 1st Whaplode Drove Guides decided to invite friends for the first time.
Chart music inspired pupils at Spalding’s Ayscoughfee Hall School to success in a nationwide intelligence test.
Year 6 pupils in 250 schools were divided into three groups as part of a BBC Tomorrow’s World programme to find out which was the best way to study while listening to radio.
The Ayscoughfee students who did best were listening to Radio1, beating students listening to classical music on Radio 3 or sport on Radio 5.
